Thank you for taking the time to visit this website dedicated to the Hurricane Irene recovery effort in Schoharie, New York. We hope this site can be a resource for those affected by Irene, as well as a reliable and up-to-date source for current news and information on the recovery efforts. We are one of several partners in the larger rebuilding coalition, Schoharie Area Long Term Recovery (SALT). http://www.saltrecovery.org/index.html
Be sure to check out our list of resources available for those affected by Irene as well as our daily updates.
About SCHOHARIE RECOVERY VOLUNTEER PROGRAM: We are a neighbor-to-neighbor effort to match volunteers from all over the state and the nation to the needs of rebuilding homes, businesses and lives in the communities of Schoharie, Gallupville, Central Bridge and Esperance. If you need immediate help with such things as cleanup, debris removal, demolition (gutting rooms, removing insulation, etc.) please call for volunteers. We are working to secure teams of qualified supervision to help you over the coming weeks and months. You are not alone. We will rebuild Schoharie together.
To Volunteer see liability forms for downloading prior to your arrival (Resources Tab), Right side column. The Volunteer Center is utilizing volunteers Monday thru Saturday, 9:00 a.m.--4:00 p.m. We are transitioning into different kinds of work involving more skilled labor with volunteers. Some houses are cleaned now, so volunteers may also be assigned to work with skilled experts and help with sheetrock, wiring, plumbing and insulation. By consolidating our volunteer force into fewer days, we hope to utilize them more effectively and to help property owners better. The Volunteer Center may be reached @ 518.390.8828 OR email us @ volunteer@saltrecovery.org.
