The weather may have cooled off, but things continue to heat up @ Schoharie Recovery, Inc.! We are SO pleased to be named a 'Charity of Choice' in this year's CDPHP Corporate Team Challenge 3.5 race on Thursday, May 17th -- all activities and the race take off from the Empire State Plaza. See info under our tabs for DONATE or EVENTS. Encourage your work colleagues and others to join in this fun event.
Also with Spring on its way, many schools, colleges, civic organizations, churches, and others are contacting our Volunteer Center for information on work days..... We now find ourselves in need of volunteers able to commit one or two days/week -- perhaps 6 or 7 hours/day-- to help in our Volunteer Office. Position PPPPPPPPPo Po Available: Schoharie Recovery seeks to hire a full-time Program Director to serve as the principal staff person for Schoharie Recovery, Inc. He or she will be responsible for supervision and operation of volunteer center activities; for coordinating the various activities of task teams; for representing the organization to the media and elsewhere; and otherwise assisting the board in fulfilling the full range of its mission as required. A Bachelor’s Degree with at least five years supervisory/administrative experience is preferred. Experience working in non-profit organizational settings and in fund-raising / grant writing is also preferred. Please see our RESOURCES tab for the complete listing of available items; call the Volunteeer Center to make arrangements for pick-up or deliveries of needed items. (examples of items waiting for new homes: 5 Ft. double bathroom sink & counter top; ex. condition couch, gas stove, 2 futons, many kitchen utensils, 2 tubs of assorted toys, bathroom vent, double stainless sink w/faucit; 2 nightstands w/matching dresser; kingsized bed, crib, bunk bed, electric stove, coffee table, 2 steel six windows, 1 bay sink w/small counter, etc.

Please note and pass on to anyone who may be ready to make a trip to Guilford Mills to pick up needed articles from the many donated appliances, furniture, clothing, etc.: Everyone who wishes to obtain items for Guilford is now being required to bring a copy of their original FEMA certificate with a phono id.
Continue to encourage friends, neighbors, any residents, property owners, or business owners affected by Hurricane Irene to Please contact the Green Shirts. This information is confidential and will be most helpful in obtaining assistance to 'fill the gaps' in unmet needs. Their schedule in Schoharie is below; you need not be a resident of Schoharie to meet w/reps in Schoharie; likewise, when the Greenshirts are in Middleburgh, a Schoharie resident may meet with then at that location. Again, encourage everyone to go for an interview OR contact them to have a home visit.

A celebration to share for the great work of volunteers through Schoharie Recovery Inc.:
As of March 5th, 2012, Schoharie Recovery has: coordinated volunteers to 235 properties within the Schoharie School District and 70 properties outside the district; fully demolished 16 structures damaged beyond repair; participated in the gutting of 166 properties; assisted in debri removal on 260 properties; assisted in the cleaning of 179 properties; assisted in the rebuilding at 65 properties and The Schoharie Recovery Loaves & Fishes Cafe' has served more than 15,000 meals from the end of August to the end of February 2012. (The cafe' served EXACTLY 6,863 meals from November 7th, 2011-February 27th, 2012!!!) Hot Diggity Dog! Way to Go, Volunteers!!!
Schoharie Recovery, Inc. is Continuing to offer Hope, Help, Recovery..... we will rebuild. Congratulations Volunteers!!!

Our Loaves and Fishes Cafe' continues to provide daily lunches to residents and volunteers. As of today, we'd like to put out an all call for needed cookies and casseroles that are NOT tomato sauce based. It is with continued help from people and groups like you, that we are able to keep our cafe' running. A special shout out to Emily and her trustworthy cooks and servers for minding the kitchen while Janis is away.....
Schoharie Recovery meets tonight, 7:00 p.m., in the Christian Ed. Bldg. of the Schoharie Presbyterian Church.
Weather is again with us so recovery efforts continue in full force...spread the word -- all volunteers treated with kindness and accepted with open hearts!

You don't have to be Irish to be seein' the Green in March!....The 'Greenshirts' of -- CRWRC Disaster Response Services are in town to help with our disaster relief efforts:
The "Greenshirts" (volunteers doing needs assessment for Schoharie Area Long Term) will be in Schoharie County, New York from March 12 until March 23 looking for people who were affected by the floods following Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee last August.
If you suffered damage in those floods and will not be able to recover without additional assistance, please visit them in the walk-in centers listed below and they will document your needs for the Schoharie Area Long Term Disaster Recovery Coalition.
If you are unable to come to one of the walk-in centers, please call (518) 702-5017 to arrange an appointment for the Greenshirts to come to your location.

The New York State Standing Committee on Insurance is hosting a Rountable on Monday, March 12, 10:30 a.m. in Hearing Room A, LOB. The purpose of this meeting is to gather information regarding the administration of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) in New York State and to explore ways to ensure adequate flood insurance coverage for homeowners. Written testimony is welcomed to the Committee Chair, Honorable James L. Seward, 430, Capital; Oral testimony will be by invitation only.
